Born and raised in Cloquet, Minnesota, Pastor Carlson has lived in the north for much of his life. After graduating from high school in 1993 and attending University of Minnesota, Duluth for nearly 2 years, Pastor Carlson left home and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to try his musical skills at the Christian Music industry. He also served as Music Director at a Lutheran church in Nashville.

In 2005, nearly 10 years after moving to Nashville, Pastor Carlson moved again to Seward, Nebraska and continued his formal education at Concordia University, Nebraska. He graduated in 2008 with a B.A. in Theology (minoring in Music).

He moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in the winter of 2008 to continue his education at Concordia Theological Seminary. During his third year he vicared at Grace Lutheran in Many, Louisiana.

After graduating CTSFW in 2013, Pastor Carlson was ordained into the LCMS at his childhood church, Hope Lutheran, in Cloquet, MN. He moved to Birmingham, Alabama and was installed at two churches: Hope and St. Paul, and served as Senior Pastor of both churches for about five years.

In the spring of 2018 Pastor Dan moved back to Minnesota and served as vacancy pastor at St. Paul's in Milaca. He was installed as the pastor of St. Paul's in November of 2018 where he remains to this day.

Pastor Carlson enjoys music, computers, some outdoor sports, and even hobbies his own web hosting company where he hosts church websites and helps churches with their web presence needs.
