Order a Small Catechism

While there are many versions of Luther's Small Catechism, the one to be used for this series is the most recent revision, available at Concordia Publishing House. Click the image below to order.

You may also read the Small Catechism online for free by going to The Book of Concord website.  This version of the Small Catechism is closer to the original German text, but translated to English.

It is always a great time to study the Small Catechism!

As Christians, it often happens that we forget the basics, the fundamentals, and we fall into the temptation of believing what we wish. Luther's Small Catechism is a great way to get back to the basics of the Christian faith. By studying it and memorizing it, we are forced to seek our Lord where He wishes to be found: in His Word and Sacraments.

In an effort to help the members and visitors of St. Paul's, we will use the next several weeks and months to study the Small Catechism. Our hymns, readings and sermons will present to us one section each week and we will slowly but surely cover all Six Chief parts (Ten Commandments, Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, Holy Baptism, Confession of Sins, and the Lord's Supper). Each Sunday the congregation will have an opportunity to recite, the portion of the Catechism we are learning and to take time at home to memorize (or re-memorize) that portion.

We will be devoting many weeks to this learning opportunity. I pray that it be most beneficial for all who take part and that, in the end, we are all strengthened in faith and greatly encouraged in the Word of the Lord.
